Cinderstep was bored. Extremely bored. It didn't happen often given the grey she-cat's quiet nature but...well, impatience got the best of everyone now and then. At the moment Cinderstep didn't think anyone would be able to argue against her impatience. Just the day before the young she-cat had been bounding through the trees, hunting as usual when she'd taken a step onto a bad branch. Before she could retreat, the rotted out branch had snapped and sent Cinderstep tumbling clumsily to the ground. Thanks to her quick feet Cinderstep had been able to save herself for the most part but there had been a hard landing. Now the young she-cat was laid up in camp with damp moss wrapped around her hind left leg along with a thick layer of potent herbs meant to reduce swelling in the limb. Tawnygaze had tutted and fussed when Boulderheart helped Cinderstep limp her way back into camp but now the young she-warrior was allowed to lay in the sun with strict orders to rest.
Rest, however, was not coming easily. Being a recently named warrior, Cinderstep felt like she needed to be up and moving at all times to prove to her clan that she had in fact earned her name. Even though Tawnygaze had let Pinestar know about her injury, the grey she-cat felt mildly embarrassed when her brothers paraded off into the forest to hunt, calling over their shoulder that she'd better not have moved when they got back. Now, it was barely past sunhigh and Cinderstep was starting to get a bit antsy. She'd dozed off and on since dawn but there was only so much sleeping a cat could do when moving was a careful and cautious procedure. It was hard to get comfortable with her heavily wrapped foot and the throbbing in the swollen limb. Even the warm sun didn't help soothe it.
'I wonder what Falconclaw and Boulderheart are up to,' Cinderstep thought mildly, watching as the afternoon patrol re-entered camp, laughing and joshing with one another.
Sighing softly the young she-cat shifted a bit and tried to stretch as fully as she could. It was easy to stretch her front legs but her hind legs remained curled and stiff, left leg pillowed on the right in an attempt to relieve the constant throbbing. Needless to say after so many hours of laying in this position Cinderstep couldn't be comfortable. Getting up to move somewhere else was a chore, there was no one really around to talk to even if she did get up anyway. The sun soaking into her dark grey fur was making the she-cat almost uncomfortably warm but still it was hard for Cinderstep to summon the energy to rise. The poppy seeds Tawnygaze had given her made Cinderstep's usually delicate feet clumsy and her head just fuzzy enough to keep her quiet but not enough to help her sleep properly.
Letting her moss green eyes close, Cinderstep sighed in her usual soft way. All around her she could hear the usual bustle of camp. It felt...unusual to not be part of the bustle, though she usually passed through camp with minimal noise or disturbance. She could feel the pawsteps of her clanmates as they crisscrossed camp, the scents of prey being carried in and around the space filling her nose and attempting to rouse her appetite. It was a weak effort. The throbbing in her leg continued with her heartbeat, duller after Tawnygaze's treatment but still present, drumming against Cinderstep's mind as the she-cat tried to doze.
